SLUG MASS/TRUE GRIT/ETERNAL MUSIC SOCIETY/DEN OSYNLIGA MANTELN - MALMÖ 2025 - LP

Documenting a scene? Or creating one? Here is an attempt to present a audio snapshot of whats stirring in the experimental Malmö underground in 2025. Four lengthy tracks from some of the most interesting artists residing in the city.

On side A of this compilation SLUG MASS brings us a weeping free jazz ballad that serves as an excellent example of their ongoing mission to reclaim the original definition of the term "post rock", in other words "using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes". In contrast TRUE GRIT presents 9 minutes of loud and filthy noise rock, creating a wall of sound that is both pleasantly unpleasant and hypnotic. Core ingredients are repetitive riffing, punching rhythms and Borbetomagus-esque outbursts of screeching saxophone that won´t take prisoners.

Side B opens with Eternal Musical Society, this time leading their psychedelic free form rock into rather doom ridden territories. Their track is outspokenly inspired by Loop which aligns well with their prior output of riff heavy trance rock experimentalism. Last but not least we have Den Osynliga Manteln whose deep sounding mixture of analogue warmth and folk prog timbres offers their listeners a vessel for other-wordly traveling into mesmerizing sonic landscapes.
